Travel | Ride 'Em Cowboy | Trek America Diary #8

Texas, the home of cowboys, line dancing and guns. And I got to experience two out of three of them during our time in the Lone Star State.

We all decided when we had some free time to try and find a shooting range as some of us wanted to give it a try. This was something I was a bit apprehensive about doing as we had only been in Charleston days before the tragic church shooting; however I was advised that this shooting range was really safe and that I would be supervised the whole time. It was an experience I'll never forget but I can't say I'll ever want to do it again.

Also during our time in Texas we visited the Capitol building where I got to stand where Obama and George Bush had given speeches as well as us getting a private talk from a guy who worked there. We also visited Barton Springs where I had never experienced water so cold in my life. You had to just throw yourself in there to get over the shock of how cold it is.

Unfortunately as we were in Texas on a Monday/Tuesday there wasn't much live music or line dancing happening. Joelle did manage to find a small bar called The White Horse where we went and watched some live music and had a little dance after the disappointment of not seeing any bat fly out from under Congress Avenue Bridge.

We also wander the streets of Austin, stopping in vintage shops and cowboy shops; where of course obligatory selfies with cowboy hats and boots on were taken.

Have you visited Texas? Are you thinking of doing a Trek America tour?

Beauty | Look Fantastic Beauty Box*

It's been a long time since I've had a beauty subscription box however when I was at the #BigBloggerConference the guys at Look Fantastic gifted me with their August box.

Once at home I opened the box and was really happy with the items in the box and pretty impressed that they had brands such as Eve Lom and Rimmel included. So what's actually in the box?

Bellapierre Cosmetics Shimmer Powder
This is described as "a snowflake shimmer powder" and can be used as a highlighter along the cheekbones or browbone to illuminate. This is such a handy size that will be great for travelling to save space for an extra lippie or two.

Omorovicza Queen of Hungary Mist
I love a face mist at the moment; with me reaching everyday for my MAC Fix+. This has neroli & rose scents that refreshes the skin and can be used to spray on the face during the day to freshen up or after cleasning as a toner.

Alterna Haircare Caviar CC Cream
I know what you're thinking a CC cream for hair? Well this is a complete correction cream that leaves you hair perfectly polished. So you just pop this into towel dried hair and leave, basically being the next step up from a leave in conditioner.

Beauty Works 10-in-1 Miracle Spray
So this little spray has ten benefits in it; it gives your hair nourishment and conditioning that it may be longer for. I'm excited to bring this away with me to New York to keep my hair healthy from all the city pollution.

Rimmel Wonder'Full Wake Me Up Mascara
Presently this is my favourite mascara so I was delighted to see this in the box. This mascara has a cucumber scent which is something I've never seen, or should I say smelt, in a mascara before. It also really lifts your lashes up, giving your eyes a wide awake look.

Eve Lom Cleanser
This truly excited me as I've been dying to try this coveted cleanser. It also came with a muslin cloth to help remove the cleanser. I can't wait to see if this lives up to my current cleanser.

The girls at Look Fantastic also gave me a bottle of Redken Braid Aid Cream which is meant to help you to do braided looks more easily. As my hair is quite short I do find myself often doing french plaits in the front of my hair so I can't wait to use this and see if it improves my braids.

The box itself costs £15 a month or if you sign up for a 3 month, 6 month or a 12 month plan the boxes work out to be a little cheaper. I think this is well worth the £15 when items such as Eve Lom retail at around £20-£30 generally; so you are definitely getting your money worth. Click here if you would like to sign up to get the September box which is worth over £55 and is celebrating Look Fantastic's 1st Birthday!

Have you tried any of the products in the Look Fantastic box? Are you a beauty box lover?

Beauty | Charlotte Tilbury Golden Goddess Luxury Eye Palette

I've always lusted over Charlotte Tilbury products ever since I've been introduced to them; however my bank balance has always disagreed that I couldn't bring something home. However with some birthday money this year, I decided that this had to change.

When I went to Selfridges last month, I spent ages wondering lusting over the pretty packaging and weighing up was it a blusher or eye shadow palette I needed in my life. In the end I spoke to one of the sales assistant who convinced me an eye shadow palette was more versatile as I could create more looks. So with that I picked up The Golden Goddess Luxury Palette, the reason for this one was I love a golden smoky eye and this looked like the perfect palette to create this.

To create the look Charlotte has intended for the palette you use the shades in a clockwise motion, with each shade creating definition and intensity to create the ultimate Golden Goddess look. The shades are really pigmented and really last well when used with a primer. I just know I'm going to be reaching for this more as Autumn and Winter come round, especially paired with a dark berry lip.

Have you tried any Charlotte Tilbury Products? What would you recommend I pick up next?

Travel | Down In New Orleans | Trek America Diary #7

New Orleans was a whirlwind of alcohol, food and getting my tarot cards read. With only two nights in NOLA we had to go hard or go home.

As we made our way to New Orleans from Panama (which I've left out because it was literally a drive day, set up camp & head out the next day) we stopped at Dr Wagner's Swamp Tour which was like literally being in The Princess & The Frog. I didn't imagine for a swamp to look pretty but it was actually quite mesmerising to see. We did see some of the devastation that Hurricane Katrina had left & it was crazy to think that there was still demolished buildings nearly ten years later.

Later that night we head out for dinner where of course I sampled some Jambalaya that was so tasty I was dreaming about it for days after. Then it was time to tear up Bourbon Street, we sampled some live music as well trying the infamous Hurricane and Hand Grenade cocktails; and after one of each it was easy to say I was quite merry. I don't think I made it back home until around 4am that night and I think at one point I was trying to convince Edie and Stacey that we should go to the casino.

The next day after a long lay in (which was very much needed) Emma, Natalie, Bianca and I decided to hit the shops. I did some damage in H&M where I picked up some more shorts because I obviously "needed" them (not). We grabbed some lunch then met up with Stacey and Rachel as we had decided to go to Jackson Square to see the Cathedral as well as get our tarot cards and palms read. I'm always a bit sceptical of things like tarot cards but I thought I might as well experience this in the place where it's famous for. I decided to have my cards read and asked for her to focus on work for me, as after giving up my job of five years I was wondering what was in store for me when I got back to the UK. Overall the reading was quite promising and did give me a little hope in regards to finding a job when I came home, whether or not any of it is true? Well only time will tell regarding that.

That evening we all went out for burgers at Yo Mama's, a place that Joelle had recommended to us to try; especially the infamous Peanut Butter Burger. I actually ordered said burger and honestly it has changed my burger game completely. Who would have thought peanut butter on a burger would taste so good? If I remember rightly they way I described it to everyone was "The weirdest yet tastiest thing I've ever eaten."
A few of us decided to have an early night and basically make the most of the last bed we would have until the 4th July (which was like 2 weeks away). We enjoyed having great wifi and Emma and I even watched Mean Girls in bed.

Have you been to NOLA? Would you like to visit there?

Beauty | August Beauty Favourites

Well it's been a while since I've sat down and spoke about my beauty favourites and this month I really had to whittle it down to my top 6 as I just had so many that I could have wrote a book entitled "Lola's Beauty Favourites" So let's get to it then...

NARS All Day Luminous Foundation
If you've read my London Haul post you will know that I was in desperate need  wanting to pick up a new foundation that I could wear on a daily basis. This gem from NARS is a winner, it gives me such a dewy glow and lasts all day without looking cakey on my face. It's so lightweight as well that you wouldn't think it would be able to have the staying power it does.

Lush The Comforter Shower Gel*
I recently moved house and no longer have a bath, the first thing I thought of was "What am I going to use from Lush now?" especially as my favourite bubble bar was The Comforter. Well as soon as my local Lush store at Lakeside announced they had some of the new launches from Oxford Street in store including The Comforter shower gel, I was a happy bunny again. This shower gel smells like hot ribena on a cold day and I just love the scent so much. Not only that but it lathers up a treat making you feel extra clean.

Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel
Something I picked up after hearing Lily Pebbles mention it a few times in various videos and blog posts. My skin was suffering with breakouts after coming back from America so I knew I needed to invest a little money to see results. This cleansing gel is bloody brilliant, it turns to an oil as you rub onto the face and really lifts and dirt, grime and make up. Not only that but the scent is really nice as well, making it even more great to use.

Kat Von D Tattoo Eyeline in Trooper
This eyeliner will change your winged eyeliner game FOREVER! I can now say my wings are near on perfection and it's made my life complete. Not only that but it stays on all day and is a great dark black, making it perfect for smoky looks. The nib is also so thin that you can get really tight to the lash line so your eyeliner looks a little neater and cleaner.

MAC Soar Lip Liner
Now if you follow me on Twitter you will know I've been on the hunt for MAC Soar since January, I've even tried to pick it up in both Spain and America and failed! So the other week when I was browsing the MAC website picking up some eyeshadows I thought I'll just check and see if they've got it in stock; well low and behold they did! Safe to say it went straight into my basket and three days later it turned up on my doorstep. I now have the coveted Kylie Jenner lip duo with my Velvet Teddy lipstick also. This now my go to lip everyday when going to work, classy yet on trend still.

Lorac Pro Palette 2
I picked this gem up in America, of course I had to! I mean what kind of beauty blogger would I be if I didn't. I find myself reaching for this palette nearly every day as I know the shades will last on my lids as they are so pigmented and do not smudge into the crease at all. You can see more of what I think of this palette in my review post from last week.

And that's all my favourites I just had to share with you this month, I know September will be full of even more great beauty products as I've already found some great gems and it's only 4 days in.

Have you tried any of my August favourites? What's been your number 1 beauty favourite in August?

Lifestyle | #BigBloggerConference

Saturday 22nd August I was up early, earlier than I have to get up for work, to head into London for the #BigBloggerConference organised by Lauren, Abi & Jenny from @LDNMeetUp. Held at The Russell Hotel in Russell Square I was set for a day of workshops, networking and catching up with a few blogger pals.

The morning started with three workshops; all with the speakers rotating in each room. First up was Sarah from The Prosecco Diaries, who spoke to us all about how to monetise our blogs. Something which can be a bit of taboo conversation between bloggers as it is such a new thing to do as a full time job. Then my favourite workshop of the morning was from Elizabeth who writes the blog Rosalilium as well as being a UK ambassador for Pinterest. Here Elizabeth spoke to us about how Pinterest can drive traffic to our blogs as well as how to get the most out of Pinterest. The final workshop was from Jasmin at Jasmin Charlotte; all about SEO. This gave me a lot of tips and tricks that I need to start working on to improve LLW.

After some lunch we were able to browse the exhibition where lots of brands had set up to network with us. I was particular drawn to Jewellery Box and was lucky enough to be gifted a little package from them. I'm so in love with this little set, it's simple and classic; so will go with pretty much any outfit.

The lovely girls from The Parlour Blow Dry & Braid Bar also braided my hair; ready for V Festival the next day. I was in love with this hair and actually managed to keep in the front plaits until Tuesday night  (when I thought I better wash my hair now.)

After that I pretty much had to rush off as I had to get home for our house warming party that evening. I wish I could have stayed longer to chat to some more brands and other bloggers I had been chatting to on Twitter before the Conference. A big thanks to Lauren, Abi & Jenny for organise this event; it was really great and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Where you at the #BigBloggerConference? What do you think of blogger events?
